Why Only the IQ?
What makes us who we are? In Caycedian Sophrology we work on: body, mind, consciousness and soul.
Why is it that every time I hear appraisal it’s always linked to intelligence? As if it is the foremost value in a human being. We are not only made out of “a brain” even if it is an extremely powerful organ. How about all the individuals who don’t have a very high IQ? Are they not worthy, don’t they deserve recognition, appreciation and most of all an equal share of love?
Ultimately what is true knowledge? Is it when someone has studied, read and learned by heart a substantial amount of information? Is the capacity of adding something to every conversation the prime? But isn’t this what a machine can do? If we input data into our computers we are then able to get all the feedback with a simple click.
In fact, in my experience as a qualified Sophrologist, I find that all the people who do not exist mainly through their’ cerebral activity are often the ones who make better choices. Because they are much more in touch with their’ gut feeling. They tend to feel more peaceful and pay more attention to numerous other things, which sometimes count much more than being intellectual.
For those of you who would like to explore this topic through your intellect, I highly recommend reading Daniel Goleman’s book on Emotional intelligence. This book is a work of art and among many other things it explains how our whole body coordinates and allows our every movement to take place. However by practicing C. Sophrology we gain this kind of knowledge all the way through in a living experience.
Human aptitude comes from everything that we live through and especially from regularly innovating experiences. Our greatest capacities manifest and develop through original and unknown situation. Not with ones that we have practiced so many times, that we do them without being fully aware of what we are doing.
If you would take a short pause and recall the feeling that you had, the last time you looked at something and thought that there was no way around it. But through persevering you managed to get it done all on your own. Because this is the true meaning of cleverness, and the emotion that comes with it equals no other. There is no greater joy than the one that rises from within and spreads into our living structure, reassuring us that we can and do find solutions to every state, however desperate they may initially seem.
If we attribute everything to only one appendage, not only we do not fully develop all the others, but we are also overworking that particular one. This is one of the reasons why we have never in the past years, had such a high percentage of mental illnesses.
For, what happens even to a machine when we never turn it off? Doesn’t it overheat, affecting its output and longevity? We do the same with our brain when we keep it working 24h per day. Many people have the impression that we put it at rests when we sleep, but it is not so. As when we sleep we dream, so it’s still on the go. By practicing C. Sophrology we find that the fundamental secrete to sanity and global well being is “Balance” thus the indispensible need of: work, rest and play. And remember that it is by being kind, looking after – that we get the best results. Prof. Caycedo’s motto is: “Look after your Heart and your heart will look after your life. Look after your Brain and your brain will look after your existence”.
