Wheel of Life – Significant Other or Intimacy
This area of the Wheel of Life generates a lot of interesting discussion when completed in a group wellness education program such as those provided for employees by their employers. No, this isn’t the life area in which you’re expected to rate your level of satisfaction with your sex life. Although sexual satisfaction may be considered, it’s only part of a larger picture.

The area of personal development needs some definition for the purpose of this article but the benefit of a fairly vague concept is that those who complete the wheel of life can give their own interpretation to this area when they are assessing their level of satisfaction. Personal development refers to the unique opportunities to grow as thinking, feeling human beings as we progress along the journey of life. For many of us there are spiritual aspects that we reflect upon when exploring this area of our lives. We may also wish to address opportunities for learning in addition to formal education. Perhaps we’ve always been interested in meditation or the environment but we haven’t committed the necessary time required to be knowledgeable or proficient about this subject. There may be something that we’ve always wanted to do, such as volunteering for a worthwhile cause which becomes obvious when we explore this area. We may discover that we have talents we would like to develop such as music, art or writing.

This should be the area of our lives in which we experience the highest level of satisfaction, right? That would be wonderful if it were true but it isn’t what I find when I work with individuals and groups in completing the Wheel of Life. Most of us neglect this area. In fact, for many of us it is consistently the lowest area when assessed. Yes, there are certainly personalities who make anything fun. Those folks take themselves and others lightly and raise the spirits of those around them with their lively, humorous approach.
