How Prayer is Similar to What an Energy Healer Does

You may have heard of energy healing as a part of alternative medicine. People have asked me, “How do you, as an energy healer, do what you do?”

Energy healing is very much like prayer

When you pray for someone several things happen:

  1. You have an intention in mind
  2. You hold the person in a place of love
  3. You ask that the person you are praying for be given something
  4. You hold the best intentions for the person.

You have an intention in mind

When you pray for someone you have a particular intention in mind. Perhaps the person is ill, or they’re distressed because they lost their job, or struggling emotionally. Before you pray for someone you know what you are going to include in the prayer.

The same is true for an energy healer. S/he begins with a set purpose. This purpose directs the entire session. For instance, there are times I’m working with a group of people with the intention of removing blocks to abundance. Whatever I’m holding in my mind directs the session.

Hold the person in a place of love

Prayer, the lifting of the mind and heart to God (going back to my Catholic roots), is a heart based experienced. You usually have an emotional connection to the person. You are in a place of love. I’m not talking emotional love here, I’m talking about agape love… the way God loves us.

The energy healer works with the person for his or her best and highest good. There should be no personal agenda on the part of the energy healer. In other words, the energy healer should not say, “This person is stubborn and I want to remove stubbornness even though s/he has asked for inner peace.” Just because I may think the person needs to release his or her stubbornness does not mean that is what the individual needs most.

You request the person be given something

This may sound the same as “have an intention in mind,” but it is different. You have probably heard the saying, “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.” In this step you activate your goal. You actually move to action. You can have all the good will in the world to hold someone in prayer, but if you don’t do it, prayer doesn’t happen.

The energy healer holds the overall objective in his or her consciousness, holds the person in a place of love, and then does whatever modality s/he is using.

Hold the best intentions for the person

While you are lifting someone up to God, you stay out of what you want for the person. It’s the action part of having an specific purpose in mind. The entire time you are praying, you stay out of it. You are simply a conduit of God’s love.

The same is true for the energy healer. S/he is simply a conduit of healing energy. S/he stays out of the way and does what is only in the highest and best for the individual.
